The National School of the Arts (NSA) proudly announces its highly anticipated 2023 Dance Spectrum season titled "September Suite." It takes to stage from September 14th to 17th, 2023, at The Lesedi within the renowned Joburg Theatre complex.

About the Production:

"September Suite" is a celebration of dance artistry exemplifying the diverse and dynamic talents of the NSA Dance Department. This eclectic suite presents a spectrum of captivating dance styles, ranging from the elegance of neo-classical ballet to the innovation of contemporary, the rhythm of Afro-Fusion, and the vibrancy of Spanish dance.

Award-Winning Creativity:

Distinguished educators and choreographers Laura Cameron (Contemporary) and Gillian Bonegio (Spanish) will join forces with acclaimed artists Thami Tshabalala and Mark Hawkins, who also serves as the director of the season. The production will feature an array of choreographies, including standout pieces from the first quarter's Dance Celebration "Behind the Mask.”

The creative team behind "September Suite" is enhanced by the inclusion of the award-winning lighting designer Wilhelm Disbergen, bringing an extra layer of visual artistry to the production.

Highlighting the emerging choreographic voices within the NSA community, Grade 11 talents Chidera Nwoha and Creagan Martins, along with Hatoentle Tema and Jaymé Golding in Grade 12, will present their compelling works. Of special note is Golding's piece, "Follow the Light," which has been expanded to include the entire matric dance class of 2023. This piece will be a poignant final collective performance for the matriculating dancers, marking a heartfelt farewell to their time at NSA.

Venue:

The Lesedi at Joburg Theatre, an increasingly popular venue for dance, will provide the stage for September Suite. Audiences will be immersed in the world of movement, music, and authentic expression from a new generation of artists set against the backdrop of this world-class theatre.
