Johannesburg, South Africa - In a courageous and deeply personal act of healing and advocacy, Sibongile Adelaide Nkabinde announces the launch of her compelling debut memoir, "Dice of Despair," a profound exploration of gambling addiction and the path to recovery.

Raised in Soweto during apartheid, Nkabinde's journey embodies extraordinary resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges. In "Dice of Despair," she unveils the often-hidden realities of gambling addiction that affects people across all socioeconomic backgrounds—from professionals to the most vulnerable members of society. Her narrative transcends a mere memoir to become a powerful call to action, challenging addiction stigma, advocating for mental health awareness, and creating safe spaces for recovery.

"For years, I suffered in silence," reveals Nkabinde. "I felt shame, fear, and isolation. Writing this book became part of my healing journey, and I now hope to inspire others to understand that recovery is not only possible but attainable."

Despite a distinguished career as a Metro Police officer spanning over two decades and her role as a dedicated mother, Nkabinde's addiction nearly cost her everything. Her recovery journey has been marked by profound personal transformation, and today, she channels her experience into sparking meaningful dialogue, supporting healing, and advocating for others on similar paths.

The launch of "Dice of Despair" marks the beginning of a new chapter—not only for Sibongile but for countless others who may recognize their own struggles in her story. Her upcoming engagements include:

  • Official Book Launch – 31st May 2025, Roodepoort Theatre from 14:00
  • Speaking at Rehabilitation Centres – Offering support and solidarity to those in recovery
  • National Radio Interviews – Raising awareness about gambling addiction and mental health

Through workshops, collaborations with mental health professionals, and continued storytelling, Sibongile Nkabinde aims to be a voice of hope and transformation in South Africa and beyond.
