Applications now open for the 2020 Concerts SA Digital Mobility Fund

As a musician that is used to performing live, do you want to present a professional high quality live-streamed or delayed-broadcast performance to be viewed across the world? If you do, consider applying to Concerts SA to help subsidise your live streaming effort.

In the past years, Concerts SA has supported thousands of musicians to tour the Southern African region, offering support for transport, accommodation and artists fees, among other things. This year’s programme is different to past call-outs because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fund is administered by IKS Cultural Consulting on behalf of Concerts SA, a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project that receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The SAMRO Foundation.

To encourage ongoing ‘movement’ in the locked-down music sector, Concerts SA has opened a call for applications for the 2020 DIGITAL MUSIC MOBILITY FUND. This fund is focussed on subsidising artists in South Africa who intend to engage with live performances on streaming platforms.

Concerts SA will consider proposals from music professionals within the following categories:
1. Live-streamed concerts without an audience – R15, 000 subsidy
2. Concerts combining a live-streamed/delayed broadcast with a live audience – R 25, 000 subsidy

An independent adjudication panel will be responsible for selecting and approving the recipients of these subsidies. Well thought-out, detailed proposals with realistic budgets stand the best chance of being selected.

Refer to Concerts SA’s research, Digital Futures – Live Streaming in South Africa at www.concertssa.co.za, for more information.

The deadline for submissions is 5:00pm on Friday 02 October 2020. Submitting an application does not guarantee you a support subsidy.

TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATIONS
Please note the following before commencing with your proposal:
● Applicants are required to create a profile on the Music In Africa website (www.musicinafrica.net). A Music In Africa profile allows music professionals to add a concise professional biography, including pictures, videos, music and other career highlights. This is important for the independent adjudication panel to fully understand the professional profile of the applicant.
● Proposed projects should take place between 15 October 2020 and 15 December 2020.
● Concerts SA cannot cover the full costs of any production, so plans or evidence of income from ticket sales, partnerships and any other additional support would improve chances of success.
● Artists must carefully consider the ownership and management of their music rights in their dealings with the streaming platforms.
● Concerts SA will not take any responsibility for the health and safety of the musicians or audiences at the venues. Evidence of Health & Safety protocols for the events are essential.
● In line with the above criteria, and the need for social distancing, Concerts SA cannot consider applications for large-scale live events.
