The Mandela concert was a an important CSI project for JT Comms Together with the crème de la crème of artistic and creative icons we volunteered to support the communication and media platform for the celebration concert. The concert saw artists from different disciplines come together in song, art, theatre and dance to pay tribute to the man whom we came to know as ‘uTata, the father of the nation’. The affair was artistically directed by Sibongile Khumalo alongside Aubrey Sekhabi and had an intergenerational mix of performers like Simphiwe Dana, Gcina Mhlophe, Ayanda Nhlangothi, Sipho Mabuse, Jessica Mbangeni, the award winning Vuyani Dance Theatre, Mak Manaka and the Gauteng Choristers. Excerpts from the play “The Rivonia Trial” also provided the golden thread through which the reflection on the life of this great man unfolded in the voices of Sello Maake ka Ncube, Fezile Mpela, Harriet Manamela, David James, Renos Spaundolos, Xolile Tshabalala, Tshallo Chokow and Max Papo. This was not the first time working with in his honour; we have also worked on the 46664 benefit concert during his 90th birthday celebrations.
