The South African Model UN (SAMUN) which was first held in 1995 as part of the United Nations’ 50th anniversary celebrations. Following the South African conference, a group of delegates accompanied former President Nelson Mandela on his trip to New York for the United Nations’ 50th anniversary celebrations. In 1998 Education Africa took The South Africa Model UN under its wing and has developed it into one of the most credible Model UN programmes in the world. At a provincial level, over 500 South African High Schools participate in Education Africa’s Model UN project. The SAMUN is the only truly national Model UN in the world which does not preclude learners from participating due to financial constraints. We are delighted to be working on this project.
